African Contemporary Art Exhibition

We, C’est Moi is a fine art exhibition featuring ten contemporary African artists from Francophone countries. Their works in painting, sculpture, photography and video all share the common idea of “Ubuntu,” an African philosophy emphasizing the pursuit of the individual’s discovery of self within the community. “The belief that a person can only discover himself or herself through other people,” is very present in African society, where people often identify themselves by the places they live in, the people they are connected to, and the work they engage. Today, this sense of community is often overshadowed by individual concerns and one fails to realize the essential role the collective plays in the construction of the self. The "we" is essential in building the individual, the "me." Self-discovery can only be fully achieved by considering the collectivity around us. With the exhibition We, C’est Moi we aim to offer a novel perspective on contemporary African art by asking the artists to explore the individual in relation to the collective, the fragments in relation to the whole.

Artists including, Nù Barreto, Benjamin Brou Kouadio, Mamadou Cissé, Saïdou Dicko, Ndoye Douts, Hyacinthe Ouattara, Rémy Samuz, Balyc Shako, Noufou Sissao and Dominique Zinkpé are based in France and come from Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast and Benin. We, C’est Moi will take place in two locations in Paris, from the 18th of May until the 5th of June the show will be at PSB Paris School of Business, and from the 18th of June until the 11th of July it will be hosted by Galerie Goldenberg.

The exhibition is organized by seven international students of the MBA in Arts and Cultural Management at Paris School of Business and IESA: Albina Iarullina (Russia), Alysa Baer (USA), Caroline Rungger (Italy), Frances Chang (Canada/Taiwan), Rickovia Leung (Hong Kong) and Virginia Cimino (Italy), who could count on the precious help of Laura Le Corre from ARKaval and Jeanine Brami from PSB Paris School of Business.
